Last week on the 8th of April 1500+ people made it through the gallery for the opening night of Kicks N Canvas presented by Sole Heaven giving 21 different artists the chance to put their work on a combo of white Nike sneaker and blank canvas piece. Here is a video and a few photos from the opening night. Each piece is also for sale at the gallery which runs until April 18th.

Sole Heaven.com has teamed up with 21 different graffiti artists for the 1st Kicks n Canvas: bringing together the intricate skills of shoe customizing and the urban artistry of graffiti writers and street artists. The 21 artists are customizing one pair of all white Nike shoes and a working on a canvas piece to compliment the shoes. The gallery will be open from April 8th to April 18th for your chance to buy any of the shoes or canvas pieces. The artists list from around the world includes: INSA, Inkie, Benedict Radcliffe, Goldie, Anthony Lister, Dan Baldwin, Jon Burgerman, ATG, Copyright, Mr. Jago, Ben Frost, Disco Teck, Meggs, Zoot, Dickchicken, Gemma Compton, Trans1, Nes, Numskull, and Jon Lawrence. We are back at it again bringing you another chance to win a great product with your shoe customizing skills. Our 4th go is sponsored by SoleHeaven.com giving the winner a pair of sneakers of their choice from the SoleHeaven online sneaker store, as well as the chance to have their latest project featured in the SoleHeaven.com Custom Kicks Series. Email contact@paintorthread.com at least 3 pictures sized no larger than 600 x 400, of your own complete customized pair of shoes between February 1st and February 28th, 2010, along with description, customizer name, website, or any other information you think is necessary. This is only for actual shoes, any photoshopped entries will not be accepted. We must also be able to decipher that you actually customized the shoes; if we determine they are not your work they will be denied. 1 entry PER PERSON/Customizer tag name. (Your friends cannot enter your pairs, neither will be accepted)Both shoes must be completed. We also have the right to deny any shoe for certain reasons: no pornographic images, drug paraphernalia, etc.

How we will determine a winner:

Judges are made up of representatives from each: PaintorThread and SoleHeaven.

Judges will vote based on criteria below. Giving each a 1-5, 5 being highest, 1 lowest:

- originality

- how clean the work is

- subject matter

-flow of design (does it clash, too much on one shoe, not enough on one shoe?)

- overall wearability

Each shoe will have all 5 criteria totaled together for each judge, and the final shoe with the highest total criteria from judges will be the winner.

1st place: 1 pair of shoes from SoleHeaven.com online store of your choice, t-shirt, and SoleHeaven.com Custom Kicks Feature

Sole Heaven Custom Kicks Series: Hush

Not to be confused with the Hush Fabrications that is more known in the custom sneaker online community, Dale at SoleHeaven has recently worked with street artist HUSH to make a pair of custom kicks for the latest installment in the Custom Kicks Series. Using a pair of Reebok NPCII these are nothing entirely special, but I still appreciate looking at the work of an artist on footwear that generally uses other forms of canvas for their art. So you did not get a pair of the Yeezy’s? I think these are the closest thing yet aside from some fakes. The crew at Sole Heaven took the Nike Air Scandal and added some off colors of the Yeezy’s to release a 1 of 1 custom called the “Scandeezy”. The name makes these better already. One of the hardest things about customizing is the cost of the base shoe. Over the past 8 years the main models used for customizing have almost all increased in price. Especially the main two Nikes: Dunks and Air Force 1’s. So UK sneaker site: Sole Heaven has set up a offer to give a discount to customizers. They are offering base shoes at trade price. Trust this is a great deal. The only thing you must prove is that you are a customizer who will use the shoes for custom purposes, simply add a link to your website, MySpace, attach pics, or show any other online coverage of your work: blogs, message boards, etc.
