Back in August I posted up an video of TRAGIKkicks being featured on Str8 Laced a combination streetwear-music-sneaker-skate-television show on the MYX Channel. That interview was actually a result of me being invited for a feature in San Francisco about Paint Or Thread that aired last week on MYX. The fact that I was even considered to be worthy of a spot on the show is amazing considering some of the other people and brands Str8 Laced showcased: Paul Rodriguez, The Clipse and their brand Play Clothes, Toki Doki, Terry Kennedy, Willy Santos, Wale, Drama of Young & Reckless, Hellz Bellz, FATLACE, Upper Playground, Johnny Cupcakes, La Coka Nostra, Fully Laced, MADE Jewelry, Brooklyn Circus, Vans, and numerous others. I can not thank everyone at MYX enough for the opportunity especially the producer Peter for treating me so well. The day was pretty crazy as I had just finished riding a bike up to and across the Golden Gate Bridge and back, ate no food all day, and then Peter and I spent over an hour in rush hour traffic before we could even get to the studio. I wouldn’t change the day for anything. Watching this video will hopefully share some insight into custom shoes and their shoe customizers if you just stumbled across this site as well as my goals for the art of custom shoes.

3RCustoms: Custom Tokidoki Nike Dunk

Orlando, Florida based shoe customizer J3ster behind the brand 3R Customs finished these Custom Nike Tokidoki Nike Dunks a few months ago. I’m not too much up on this Japanese streetwear brand, but Tokidoki definitely has a worldwide presence from a quick Google search. 3RCustoms created this decon-recon custom using a signature Tokidoki camo print pattern for a majority of the shoes upper. The camo was accented by a bright red sole, candy apple glitter patent leather swooshes, and red suede liner. My favorite part is probably the detailed red contrast stitching and lining of the edges on the upper. Unfortunately these are a 1 of 1 for 3R Customs personal collection…you’ll have to make your own. Goooood luck with that. Practice first is all I can say.

Clash of the Customizers Champion: YOAKUSTOMS

Over a year in the works and the first Clash of the Customizers winner has been crowned. Last Saturday it was made official at the opening gallery event in Los Angeles. With a run of 5 highly detailed hand painted customs Amanda Yoakum of Yoakustoms came out on top. Here is a look at Amanda in all her glory next to her winning pair along with 5 of her customs on the wall up against finals competitor Jest3R of 3R customs work. All of her customs used a Nike Dunk highs as the base shoe with custom designs in themes of Dennis the Menace, Edward Scissorhands, Alice in Wonderland, Aya Tara, and Chinese takeout. Clash of the Customizers: Video Recap from ST!ZO

I missed out, you missed, we all missed out if you were not in attendance last Saturday at the Clash of the Customizers VIP Event in LA. I can only relive the event through other peoples photos and videos. Customizer out of Chicago, IL. ST!ZO created this video of the night. Looks like it was a great time. Clash of the Customizers FINAL: Yoakustoms vs. Jest3R

Months in the making, somewhere around 50 different customs(I’ve lost count), 26 head to head matchups, 5 rounds, and some of the biggest names in shoe customization made up the 1st ever Clash of the Customizers. The final once again comes down to: a shoe customizer that mostly paints and a shoe customizer that mostly does “decon-recons”. Both customizers used the battle favorite Nike Dunk high as a base shoe, so they are even at that point. Yoakustoms went with a Chinese take-out inspired design with hand painted pile of noodles, meat, and veggies with a take-out box complete with the wire handles. The take-out package was topped off with greasy menu insoles and a shoebox that looks like a plastic bag. Jest3R of 3R customs made a heavenly white patent leather “decon-recon” based off the silhouette of the Nike Air Yeezys, Kanye West’s shoes, highlighted with a hot pink detailing in the liner and a small early 90′s style Nike Swoosh in elephant print. I could not pick a winner if I had too.

Both pairs along with every other pair from the Clash and more are to be on display the next couple weeks in Los Angeles, California which is kicking off this Saturday December 12th, more info on that soon.

Clash of the Customizers: mr.bbgambini v. jest3R

A couple weeks ago the first semi final of the Clash of Customizers custom shoe tournament took place. After surviving a 3 rounds mr. bbgambini of Mateo Acrylics took on jest3R of 3R customs. Painted design versus “decon-recon”. mr. bbgambini came with a Nike Air Force 1 customized titled “Red Sea” with a red monotone design covered with combination of 3 patterns while jest3R created one of the first Nike Air Force 1 High “recon-decons” ever. Using a theme of the popular UNDFTD short for Undefeated, a high end boutique sneaker store in Los Angeles and Las Vegas he created an original upper made of the stores shopping bags and komodo dragon skin. Look out PETA!

Clash of the Customizers: SoleAffection v. jest3R

Battle number two in the Clash of the Customizers custom shoe tournament is between SoleAffection of Twitch Customs and jest3R of 3R Customs. This is a tough matchup. Sole Affection came with the cool Space Jam / Hare Jordan idea but not the greatest execution or design, while jest3R came with the great design and execution yet its all a second-hand idea borrowed from Nike’s 112 pack release and their hype monger DJ Clark Kent. 3R Carbon Fiber Mercurial Vapor Dunk Low

So last week we showcased the insane Dunk low by Hush Fabrications using the carbon fiber like vinyl. Funny thing is that Sole Jest3r of 3R customs came out with a very similar design though they are a full “decon-recon”. Jest3r based his design of the extremely expensive carbon fiber Nike Mercurial soccer boot. Accented with a pink and purple lenticular swoosh that really pops against an entirely black background.

3R – Digicamo Con AllStar

Jest3r of 3R customs probably has more digi camo fabric laying around his desk than most military surplus stores. Maybe not that much but close. Jest3r is revisiting his previous use of digi camo on the Nike Air 180 by using it on some Chuck Taylors and Dunks. We are going to showcase the Converse Chuck Taylors alone just because its the first time we have ever heard of a “decon-recon” of a Chuck Taylor. Digicamo upper, white midsole, and orange reflective material in replace of the white rubber toes. Gorgeous.
