SweatShop Clothing
Brand: SweatShop Clothing
Bio: I (Nizos) have been drawing and painting since I was a kid. I was drawing concept shoes in the 6th grade for my playgroud basketball team, and have always had a love of art, kicks, and urban fashion and cutlture in general.
SweatShop Clothing began as an idea living at home in Anderson IN in 2005, I had been doing pieces for myself, a local record company 3SE, and gifts for friends for quite a while. I was considering a clothing line, and all the things that go with it, and was absolutely dead set on the name. In an attempt to generate some real money & utilize the skills I knew that I had, i started taking stabs at it, hard.
In FEB 2007 I did my 1st pair of shoes for my best friend Dilerious, who is a local musician, and began noticing instant demand for my work on kicks.
In Jul 2007, After doing a few pairs for myself, and building a portfolio of 5 or so pairs, and several other items..hats, shirts ect, i moved to Cincinnati OH, where my client base increased through my girlfriend Amber’s social network and my tireless myspace advertising.
In Oct of 2007, Kirk, a lifelong artist & schemer that i met through amber, joined me in my quest. We did SweatShop’s 12th or so pair of shoes together, and history was made, a dark alliance formed!
In May 2008, SweatShop teamed up with another local company called State Authentics, who was introducing an original Cincinnati shoe line locally, and customized one of the 1st pairs for the launch in august, they even made it in www.formatmag.coms Sept 2008 custom sneaker edition. Since then weve had other collaborative efforts and plan to work together in the future.
In July 2008, we did our 1st international order for a girl in Sweden named Nefarious, they where done in the theme of the Joker, modeled after an earlier pair i had made for myself, but themed around Heath Ledger’s Joker from The Dark Knight, due to the movies enormous success, its grown to be our most well known item, we’ve duplicated it 2 times, and done a matching shirt. The sneaker has been featured on 25 different websites with pics and articles, giving us over 1000 myspace adds within 2 months.
In Aug 2008 we did a custom 9/11 was an inside job hat for one of our heroes Jason Bermas, of the loose change documentary fame, which was a great honor.
Sept 12th 2008, SweatShop did its 1st fashion show/Dj Event, called “Fashion Kills”, with the help of KIM promotions, a company headed by Kirk’s childhood friend Mark Eklektik, and got a very warm response and a lot of heads were turned.
In Sept 2008 we also bought www.SweatShopClothing.net, and linked it to our myspace, until we get a proper website up.
In Oct 2008 After kicking the idea around of getting a screen press for quite some time, Kirk’s best friend Kill Bill joined our sweaty ranks by investing in an gigantic 6 color screen press, this move will take SweatShop Clothing to the next level. With The ability to fill large orders, and a printed official brand named line, the future is looking pretty sweet.
